March Featured Product - Honey Candles AND Wickman Candle Accessoriesby Carolyn Lemke on 03/04/11
Welcome to our blog!
The final few weeks of winter are upon us, and that means facing winter storms complete with heavy rains, winds, and sometimes even snow. Our electricity doesn't always hold up against the forces of Nature, and when the power goes out, you want to have safe and long-burning candles available to keep your home lit.
Before writing this blog, I decided to test each type of candle that we offer here at Heart and Soul to find out which type of candle was the cleanest and the longest burning. Of the three candle types offered here, (Beeswax, Paraffin, and Soy) beeswax took the cake - a single votive burning between 16 - 20 hours, with the cleanest burn (no residue left on glass) and virtually no smoke.
Pure beeswax candles are naturally amber colored, and although they are unscented, they give of a light honey scent when burned or when left in a warm area. The warm amber glow is perfect for mood lighting, whether you are setting up the perfect romantic dinner to share with your sweetheart, or setting up an altar for your sacred space.
My favorite benefit of using a pure beeswax candle is the negative ions that it produces to reduce allergens in the air. If you're like me, Spring is an exciting and beautiful time of the year, but you might be miserable from all the pollens in the air. Burning beeswax candles helps reduce the allergens in the air and makes Springtime fun again for everyone! (Another natural allergy remedy to consider: eating local honeys - as little as a teaspoon a day- can help your body become used to flora that may be blooming in your area, therefore building up a natural resistance to the pollen.)
Last, but not least, beeswax is a naturally renewable resource, and harvesting is completely safe for the bees! Honey Candles beekeepers love their bees, and use environmentally friendly approaches such as the natural climate and crop rotation where they can.
